VIRTUAL TOUR

If pictures are worth a thousands words, we hope that these photos help
start to tell the North House story.
But don't forget - visitors are welcome anytime!

On your way into town, the welcome sign greets you by the main entry onto campus.

The colorful buildings of campus are situated on the edge of Lake Superior on the Grand Marais Harbor.

The red building houses North House's woodworking and boatbuilding classrooms. Here, Inuit skin-on-frame kayaks move towards completion.

Boatbuilding course ranging from Norwegian pram building (above) to cedar strip canoe building to wood-canvas canoe restoration take place in the shop

Woodshop courses range from dragon relief carving (above) to trestle table construction, windsor chairs/stools to wood turning.

During special events weekends, the workbenches are moved out of the way for community dancing that stretches into the night.

First light across Lake Superior's open horizon define the start of every day on campus.

North House's blue building serves as the front office, school store, student commons and classroom.

Scandinavian Bowl Carving is a North House classic - wood chips cover the floor as the greenwood bowls take shape.

Fiber courses such as Rigid Heddle Weaving (above) and Natural Plant Dyes often are hosted in the blue building.

North House's Fish House sits adjacent to the campus' two timbered docks. Each fall the traditional Fish Boil takes place during Unplugged.

The spectacular beauty of the Grand Marais Harbor is accentuated by the Sawtooth Mountains inland. North House's Schooner Hjordis sails May-Oct.

Each fall a big top tent arrives on campus as part of the Unplugged/Northern Harvest special event weekend.

The new Milling Shop classroom building includes a solar hot water heating system that models sustainable building.

Student volunteers played a major role in shaping the timbers for both North House's Fish House and the Milling Shop.

Students arrive on campus from across the country - 36 states were represented in 2009. Custom workshops for courses are also offered.

The Grand Marais Harbor beckons paddlers and sailers onto the water throughout the open water season.

The yellow house, used for administrative office space, stands by the entrance onto campus.

The rugged beauty of the North Shore is accentuated during the winter season. Above Lake Superior ice grinds against the rocks of Artist Point

Courses at North House take place throughout the year. Tuition rates Nov-April are slightly lower during the "quieter season."
