Firestarting & Cordage: Primitive Skills Workshop

Matchless fires, finely flaked obsidian, spears, slings and the whole David and Goliath bit. This primitive skills workshop invites you to learn the basic skills of yesteryear, exploring the foundational skills required to flintknap, bow-drill firestarting as well as flint and steel, and making cordage rope from plants at hand. Students will have the opportunity to 'play for a day' and explore a pre-bow and arrow technology with an atlatl (pronounced "OT-LOTTL") - a simple spear-throwing device that uses mechanical leverage to increase the force of a thrown spear (more accurately a long dart) up to 2-1/2 times. Spend time with costumed character Flint Eastwood as we put the scouts in boy and girl scouts.
