Bring the portability and efficiency of the camp chair into your home, as this course investigates the design and construction of a wooden folding camp-style chair. Designed for small spaces, and portable enough to fold up and put away, the folding chair is made from sustainably harvested local white pine and sewn durable canvas. Students will learn to draw out the angles required to make this chair 'work', and the traditional woodworking, riveting and sewing techniques required to construct the chair. When finished, the chair is a clever addition to any living space, including the camp, the living room or around the fire ring. The design and construction of the chair will have students rethink the possibilities of furniture for efficient spaces, while also providing a comfortable, handcrafted chair to enjoy.
