Service Learning Weekend
Learn a new skill and leave a legacy!
Help make North House a better place to be a student.
It takes many hands to make a folk school, and our Volunteer &
Service Learning Weekend is your chance to pitch in. Journey North
April 17-19 and help us air
campus after a long winter. Options include taking part in volunteer
projects outlined below, or taking a reduced tuition-rate Service
Learning Course (see below).
Here’s to the first sign of spring – airing out the House!
FROM FLOORS TO FIREWOOD
It’s been a long, cold winter on the North Shore; it’s time to dig
out and start preparing for the summer season! Join us at North
House for the annual Service Learning and Volunteer weekend. Heat
and hammer metal or chisel out joinery destined for years of use on
the North House campus in one of our formal service learning
courses. Interested in lending a hand in other ways? Chop wood, pack
up the yurt, or apply a new coat of varnish to our beloved and
well-trodden floor in the blue building. Any way you slice it,
you’ll get a few square meals out of the deal (including wood-fired
pizza, of course), and time well-spent with friends at North House.
SERVICE LEARNING COURSES:
A great way to learn new skills while also helping North House is by
participating in any of the Service Learning courses during the
Tools for the Shop: Service Learning in the Blacksmith Shop
Sawhorses for the Shop: Service Learning in the Woodshop
Volunteer projects will take place April 17-19. We’ll hit the ground
running on Friday with projects of all sizes – from varnishing the
floor, to refinishing picnic tables, to chopping wood. Lunch will be
provided Friday, Saturday as well as a pizza potluck on Saturday
evening. Please RSVP with Program Coordinator Matt at
or call 218-387-9762 by Friday, April 3.
