WOODEN
BOAT
SHOW &
SUMMER SOLSTICE FESTIVAL
Thanks to everyone for an INSPIRING 2010 WBS
Hope you were there!
JOIN US NEXT YEAR - June 17-19, 2011
The biggest celebration of the year. Try
your hand at a workshop or course. Be inspired by the stories
of boat builders, sailors and travelers, and plan you next
adventure. Meet the artisans and craftspeople who teach and
see their work in action. A fun, family-oriented educational
event. Curiosity welcome. Member-supported and
volunteer-hosted. So grab a paddle, bring an old tool to
auction off and journey North!
2010 Featured Guest and Presenter
- Bob O'Hara
It is said that the Arctic gave him that lifestyle, and the
Inuit people a family. The tundra gave him a home. Bob O’Hara
may be the most well-traveled Arctic canoeist of the last
generation. It is noted that O’Hara has paddled the equivalent of
the earth’s circumference, all in frigid far-north waters.
Featured Presentation
-
"From
the Stern of My Canoe - Seeing the Culture and Landscapes of the Far
North – The Bob O’Hara Legacy"
Sunday, June 20 at 12:30pm at North House Folk School.

Festival Highlights
Harbor Side Wooden Boat Display
Wooden boats and watercraft blanket campus all weekend long
as boat builders and wooden boat enthusiasts gather and share
insight about their watercraft.
Boats-to-Tools Auction
The auction serves as a great resource for boat owners
and enthusiasts, tool collectors and the ‘do-it-yourselfer’ to find
a new home. In turn, your participation in the auction is a
great way to support North House Folk School’s educational efforts.
In 2009 over 400 items were on the block!
Wooden Boat Speaker Series
Watch, listen, be inspired. The adventurous and spirited
journeys of sailors, boat builders and canoeists converge for two
days of inspirational presentations. More than a dozen
presentations to choose from!
A Community of Handcraft
Witness skilled traditional craft
artisans as they join as a community over the weekend to celebrate
the process of craft. Demonstrators will be on hand Friday-Saturday,
welcoming your curiosity, questions and interest.
Lake Superior Chowder
Experience Smoky steelhead, salsa corn,
walleye and clam...combined with freshly baked breads from North
House’s wood-fired oven, a North Shore culinary event not to be
missed.
Steam Bent Brunch
Share stories, smile together, eat well. Boat builders,
North House members, instructors and friends of North House gather
to share a meal together during the Wooden Boat Show & Summer
Solstice Festival. Enjoy a ‘Sunday-Style’ brunch catered by our good
neighbors, The Pie Place.
On The Harbor Games
Discover the historical background of Lacrosse. Try
your hand at Kubb, a maritime game with roots in the boatbuilding
yards of Scandinavia. Get on the water, in a canoe, for a game
of Deadfish Polo.
Course Offerings
Featured event coursework surround the entire Wooden Boat Show &
Summer Solstice Festival weekend. Additional courses are
featured as well on the weekends adjacent to the event - to
