Course Overview

Learn the foundational skills of leatherwork while making a fun and funky clutch and small wallet that will turn heads at the co-op and coffee shop. We will start with a small wallet capable of holding cash and cards, and then use our developing skills to craft a larger clutch bag. The bag has pockets, a removable wrist strap, and brass hardware. We will use the traditional two-needle saddle stitch and hand tools to make beautiful pieces that will last for years. This is a relaxing, machine-free way to construct objects of great beauty and integrity. Natural vegetable-tanned leather starts out a soft buff color, but darkens to a rich toffee hue as it lives with you. No prior sewing experience is necessary, but this class will require good hand dexterity. Bring your reading glasses if you need them!

Optional Tools

  • Reading glasses if you use them.
