Knotwork Dragon: Online Course

Course Overview

Dragon lovers unite! Zoomorphic designs appear in both Scandinavian and Celtic cultures, and this piece brings both together for a fantastical representation in wool and beading. This class meets over two sessions, in which the first focuses on needle felting the design using “painting with wool” techniques, while the second session focuses on detail work and bead embellishments. The kit includes the backing with design, wool from the instructor’s sheep, beads, needles, and thread. Students need to provide their own foam or padded work surface and an 8 inch embroidery hoop (8 inch size is important). While all skill levels are welcome, previous needle felting experience for this project is encouraged. Laura will also share ideas and techniques for mounting and enjoying your piece.

All students will be mailed a kit containing:

  • The backing with design
  • Wool from the instructor’s sheep
  • Beads
  • Needles
  • Thread

Required Tools:

  • Students need to provide:
  • Their own foam or padded work surface
  • 8 inch embroidery hoop (8 inch size is important)
  • Scissors
  • Laptop or tablet with reliable internet connection

Optional Tools:

  • Reading glasses if you use them

Session Information

Registration closes April 22 so that the instructor will have time to mail out materials.
