Royal Weekend: German Prinzregententorte
Course Overview
This cake is a seven-layer showstopper named for Luitpold, the Prince Regent of Bavaria from 1886 to 1912. Did he love cake? Maybe. They named a cake after him, though, so probably. Baking this cake is a great way for students to sharpen their technical baking skills, and take home a truly impressive dessert. In this class every student will bake their own cake, plus we will learn about some traditional German cookies!
This class can be taken as a stand-alone, or along with its Swedish counterpart, Royal Weekend: Swedish Princesstårta, held the previous day.
NOTE: A version of this cake can be made without gluten, but dairy-free and egg-free versions will not be included in this class.
Students should have the ability to handle kitchen handtools (whisk, electric mixer, knife, etc.) and the ability to stand/sit at a workbench (if a student cannot stand or sit on a tall stool at a workbench, an alternative workspace can be set up—inform instructor if this is needed). Students age 16+ are welcome to register. Youth ages 10 and up may attend if accompanied by an adult. Adult/child pairs will complete one project and pay one materials fee.
Required Tools
- A container for transporting baked goods home. Instructor will provide cake round for moving the cake.
