The Fisherman's Sweater: Introduction to Knitting Cables

The richly textured designs we see on fisherman sweaters of the British Isles, Arans and Gansey/Guernseys are achieved by using various types of cables along with knit and purl stitch combinations. If you have always wanted to knit a fisherman sweater, or if you just want to learn about knitting cables, you’re invited to learn these necessary techniques in this course. We will start with basic cables and then explore braids, twists, traveling stitches and more. In addition, we will explore knit and purl stitch combinations that also contribute to the fisherman sweater look. We will also discuss and practice reading charted directions for various cables.
