North House programs offer a great way for anyone to come down and get a taste of craft. Some programs don't require pre-registration, making them convenient drop-in opportunties if you happen to be around campus!

Color and Collaboration: Swedish Weaving in the 21st Century with Miriam Parkman

Join professional weaver Miriam Parkman – one of six members in the weaving collective Studio Supersju – as she talks about her work. With her first visit to North House and Minnesota, Miriam is hoping to meet fellow artists and continue the conversation after the lecture.

Rivers of Lake Superior’s North Shore: An Ojibwe Perspective

Thu, Mar 28, 2024 – 7pm in the Blue Building
The drive along the North Shore of Lake Superior between Duluth and the international border on Highway 61 is an iconic Minnesota experience, offering unparalleled scenery, with over two dozen short scenic rivers. This presentation will explore the Ojibwe language names for these iconic waterways, and discuss how this reveals a much richer understanding of the area.

Calling young creative folks!

Summer Youth Camps at North House Folk School: day camps for youth ages 8 - 16. As a camper you will try out lots of skills while making new friends and having fun! Youth will be in a small group while they learn from instructors who are knowledgeable and excited to help youth learn about traditional crafts.

Journey Along the Iditarod Trail

Tue, May 14, 2024 – 7pm in the Blue Building
Follow along with rookie Iditarod mushers with Minnesota roots: Erin Altemus and Anna Hennessey as they recount their 2024 runs on the 1,000-mile Iditarod Sled Dog Race in Alaska. This event is free and open to the public!

Instructors in Residence

Weekends (Thursday-Sunday) 10am–4pm from Late May to Early September
Stop by our outdoor commons in the center of campus each week to see live traditional craft demonstrations with our talented artisan instructors. Each week a different instructor will be featured and visitors will have the opportunity to observe their hands at work as well as ask questions about the craft.

Sailing resumes Early Summer 2024
Experience Grand Marais from the lake - sail with us aboard our 50' traditionally rigged schooner Hjørdis!
