Cheese Press: Build Your Own

Course Overview

To venture beyond the world of cream cheese and ricotta in homemade cheeses, aspiring cheese-mongers will need a simple piece of equipment, the cheese press. Why buy one when you can build your own press designed by Artisan Cheesemaking instructor Gary Colles? In this course each student will build a simple cheese press out of maple hardwood and a small handful of screws. No prior woodworking experience is required, as students will first become familiar with the wood working equipment at North House. This includes how to safely use a miter saw, table saw, and a band saw, as well as a drill press and a palm sander. Students will measure, cut, sand, and assemble their very own press. The project won't be hard, only the cheese it produces!
