Course

Wood, Fiber, Leather, Wire: A Handcraft Sampler

Course Overview

Come together for a weekend of fun and experimentation on the edge of Lake Superior! You’ll try your hand at basic woodcarving, felting, rope-making, sewing, wirework, and leatherwork. We’ll combine these mediums to make bags, baskets, games, jewelry, and more. Together, we’ll create a supportive, resourceful, and playful crafting community.

Traditional handcraft methods were developed to solve the problems of daily life—spoons for eating, baskets for gathering. Today, everything we need can be bought, but our human urge to MAKE persists. Whether you’re experienced at one craft and want to try something new, you’ve never been crafty in your life and find it all a little bit intimidating, or you’re looking to introduce traditional handcraft to the kids in your life—this course is for you! Our emphasis will be on experimentation, learning from one another, fun, and creativity. The aim is to send you home with a sense of satisfaction from your new skills, a feeling of calm from slowing down—and perhaps a new interest!

Students age 14+ may register for this class on their own. Youth ages 8 and up may attend if accompanied by an adult. Adult/child pairs will complete their own projects and pay two materials fees.

Materials Fee
