Course Overview

During this session, we will transform the stacks of recently hand-hewn timbers into a 12’ by 12’ square pavilion with magnificent tool marks showing off its truly hand-crafted nature. Students will use traditional layout methods, including square rule and simple scribing, to accurately mark out the joinery on the hewn surfaces. Hand tools are most suited to cut the joinery in this environment, and students will have an opportunity to try out a variety of hand saws, axes, chisels, and beam drills.
