Explore the Summer Solstice Light: Photography as Storytelling

Course Overview

Join Featured Speaker David Thoreson in the field and classroom for some hands-on camera instruction, tips, workflow, and storytelling instruction on the longest day of the year. David has spent a lifetime on adventures in the field, sailing the oceans and navigating the Arctic ice, all the while visually documenting the outdoors. The workshop will begin with an introductory classroom session where we will run through basic visualization, composition and equipment. We will take a dinner break and reconvene for a waterfront solstice sunset shoot at Artist’s Point (optional but recommended!) and then gather the next day for further discussion and learning. If you have ever been interested in assembling a personal story, hobby or photo collection into a digital story to share online, in the media or in person, David’s workshop will help you attain your goal and give you confidence to share your collection.

Note: above images are examples of the instructor's work—no icebergs in Lake Superior!
