Knitting: Moving Beyond the Basics

Course Overview

Move beyond the basics in knitting in this intermediate course. Students will grow their skills by creating a small drawstring bag suitable for carrying a cellphone or tablet. The project is designed to teach students a number of knitting skills: pattern-reading including standard abbreviations and instructions, combining knit and purl stitches to create double moss and grating stitches, using stitch markers, row counters and measuring devices, knitting eyelets, using a “lifeline,” sewing a mattress stitch seam and doing a three needle bind-off. Students are encouraged to bring a small pattern or project for assistance as time allows.
