Clyde was born in White Earth, MN in September 1951. He grew up in the Naytahwaush area, attending grade school there, and on to high school in Mahnomen. He also attended college in Kansas. His father, whom he learned basketry from is his biggest influence. His father learned from Clyde’s grandmother. His main concern is to do the best job to create an artwork that he can be proud of and to pass this on the next generation. Clyde is a third generation basketmaker and loves to teach the skills of basketry. His artwork is unique because of his original design and color placements. Creating beautiful artwork from a tree is what inspires and motivates him. Through the years he’s learned patience and newfound creativity.
