David has worked for over three decades as a professional photographer, sailor, and explorer documenting the outdoors locally in Iowa, the Great Lakes region, and globally, sailing 70,000-miles across the world’s oceans and polar regions. He is the first American sailor in history to complete the Arctic Ocean’s Northwest Passage in both directions. Exploring the Passage led David to the issue of climate change, altering his life and work forever. He hopes to inspire others to explore their own connections to nature, both locally and globally. David is a National Fellow of the Explorers Club, two-time TEDx speaker and presents at universities and institutions across the globe.
