Living in the Copper Country region of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula provides Karen with an abundance of barks, roots, and fibers that she finds herself driven to experiment with. These materials seem to lend themselves to textile applications. Karen is inspired to combine traditional basketry with other fiber arts and metalworking techniques such as piecework, lace making, and fabrication. Karen’s basketry forms are a celebration of the harmony that is intertwined between these natural materials and traditional techniques.
